Senior guard Amanda Berntsen of Chatham has given a verbal commitment to continue her basketball career at Princeton.
The 5-9 guard averaged 18.4 points last year for a 26-3 team at Chatham. She shot 51 percent from the floor, 33 percent from 3-point range and sank 76 percent of her free throws while earning first team All-Morris County recognition from The Star-Ledger. She scored 20 or more points in 15 games. In one unusual statistic, she averaged 1.5 points per shot attempt last year.
Berntsen will join a Princeton program that was 24-5 last winter and won the Ivy League title for the second consecutive year.
Her stellar play during the AAU season this spring and summer resulted in increased attention from college programs across the nation, but in the end, she chose Princeton over Ivy rivals Dartmouth and Columbia.
``I took my time in making my decision,'' she said. ``But it's a relief to get it out of the way before the school year begins.''

Even with one year still to play, Berntsen is at or near the top in most offensive categories in the Chatham record book. Most notably, her total of 1,305 is second only to Julia Berger, who graduated in 2005 with 1,475 before also continuing her career at Princeton.

Alex Mitola Commits to Dartmouth
For months, Gill St. Bernard junior guard Alex Mitola had watched as his teammates racked in offers and committed. Jaren Sina popped for Alabama, while Dominic Hoffman chose Bucknell. Monday, however, was Mitola’s turn to stir the mixing pot.
“I’m headed to Dartmouth,” stated an excited Mitola by phone on Monday night. The 5-foot-9 combo guard picked the Big Green over a number of other Ivy League contenders.
The guard shoots the rock with amazing range and is consistently accurate. He can also handle the ball well, but his size has dropped his stock a bit. Never the less, Mitola makes up for it with his long range as he is always a threat to shoot it from whereever he is on the court.
Dartmouth assistant and former Hoop Group employee Joey Gallo recruited Mitola extremely hard to the Ivy program. Mitola took two unofficial visits last week, one to Vermont and one to Dartmouth. From there, he began favoring the Big Green and decided it was the best opportunity for him. He will look to win a state championship in New Jersey with the Knights of Gill St. Bernard next year, his senior season. |

Dallas Anglin commits to Hofstra
Hofstra coach Mo Cassara has dipped into New Jersey yet again.
A few weeks after landing 6-foot-8 St. Anthony power forward Jimmy Hall, the Pride have landed their second commitment from the class of 2012.
Dallas Anglin, a 2012 6-foot-1 point guard out of Seton Hall Prep, verbally committed to Hofstra on Sunday night. This comes after Anglin visited the CAA school officially last weekend, as well as a few weeks earlier for an unofficial.
“I chose Hofstra because of the coaching staff and how much of a family they are,” he said by phone. “They love me and you have to love who loves you. They are a program looking to do something new and myself and Jimmy are who they want.”
The role of Hall’s pledge to Hofstra was important for Anglin as the two came up for official visits on the same weekend. While they are nemesis on the AAU circuit with Sports University and New Heights, the Garden State duo could make a great deal of noise for Hofstra in the future.
As for the talented point guard, he chose Hofstra over Siena, Duquesne, Penn State, Temple, St. Joe’s, Richmond, Towson, Manhattan, and Rice. The pair join a talented team that could make some noise in the upcoming season despite the loss of shooting guard Charles Jenkins to the NBA. With Cassara’s 1-2 punch in assistants and expert recruiters, Steve Demeo and Patrick Sellers, the Pride will remain a consistent favorite to contend for the Colonial Athletic Association title. |
